Diagnosing Tuberculosis Meningitis with Metagenomics and Host Transcriptomics

This study is using metagenomic next generation sequencing to identify TB and other infections coupled with analyses of the host gene expression data generated by the metagenomic assay to improve the diagnosis of TB meningitis and its mimics. We are enrolling a prospective cohort of over 600 participants with suspected tuberculous meningitis in Kampala and Mbarara, Uganda in collaboration with Dr. David Boulware at the University of Minnesota and Dr. David Meya and his team at the Infectious Diseases Institute at Makerere University.
