Michael Wilson, MD, is a neurologist specializing in infectious and autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system whose laboratory applies metagenomic sequencing and phage display antibody discovery technologies to improve diagnosis of neurologic infections and other disorders. He has an active collaboration with Dr. David Boulware at University of Minnesota and Dr. David Meya and colleagues at the Infectious Diseases Institute at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda to improve diagnostics for TB meningitis and its many infectious mimics. He also collaborates widely with investigators in Africa, Latin America, and Asia to better understand the epidemiology of infectious causes of meningitis and encephalitis in different parts of the world. His lab is also working toward making these advanced diagnostic tools more accessible in lower resource settings.
