J. Claude Hemphill III, MD, MAS, is a professor of neurology and neurological surgery and chief of neurology and director of neurocritical care at San Francisco General Hospital. He is a founding director and past-president of the Neurocritical Care Society and has served as a member of writing groups for guidelines for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, traumatic brain injury, and intracerebral hemorrhage. He is the current co-chair of the Curing Coma Campaign of the Neurocritical Care Society. His equity and global health work has focused locally on optimizing acute neurological emergency care for vulnerable patients in San Francisco and globally through medical lectures, empowering the development of neurocritical care in LMIC, and dissemination of guidelines.
