Elizabeth Hamid, MD, joined the faculty in the Neurohospitalist Division of UCSF in 2021 after returning from community practice in the East Bay of California. She did her neurology residency at the University of Washington Medical Center. She completed a neurovascular fellowship prior to beginning work as a neurohospitalist. Before returning to UCSF she was the chief of neurology at Highland Hospital where she worked to develop an inpatient neurology service to care for Oakland’s underserved and a neurology curriculum for the residents and students. 

Dr. Hamid primarily attends on the teaching service at San Francisco General Hospital, which is the city’s main safety net hospital. She is passionate about educating learners about best practices related to communication and management decisions especially related to serious illness and end of life inpatient neurologic practice. Dr. Hamid is also actively involved in quality improvement at SFGH and a member of the neurovascular peer review committee where she strives to understand underlying challenges in order to optimize inpatient neurology and stroke care. She also serves on the ethics consult committee whose mission is to protect our most vulnerable patients through multidisciplinary evaluation and consultation. 

Outside of work, Dr. Hamid is an active member in her community working to promote antiracism in her children’s school and foster open dialogue between communities.
